Get hands-on with history, rare manuscripts, and interactive workshops at the Zayed National Museum’s stand
Step into a world of history, heritage, and discovery at the Zayed National Museum during the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2025!
From 26 April to 5 May, the museum invites you to explore the UAE’s rich cultural tapestry at its dynamic stand (8D05) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
This year, the museum is offering a can’t-miss experience, an animated digital copy of the Kitab Suwar al-Kawakib al-Thabita (The Book of Fixed Stars), created by the brilliant 10th-century astronomer Abd al-Rahman al-Sufi.
This ancient manuscript, created in 1341 CE, will come to life through interactive animations, allowing you to explore one of the most influential works in Islamic astronomy.
And that’s just the beginning. The museum’s stand also features a stunning projection showcasing the Magan Boat Project.
In partnership with Zayed University and New York University Abu Dhabi, this initiative shines a light on the UAE’s Bronze Age maritime history, revealing ancient trade routes and shipbuilding techniques that helped shape the region’s rich heritage.
On 30 April at 6pm, the museum will host an exciting panel discussion: “The Magan Boat Project and The Role of Zayed National Museum in Preserving Emirati Maritime Heritage.”
Experts like Dr. Eric Staples, Dr. Emma Thompson, and Shouq Al Awadhi will join moderator Mai Al Mansoori for an insightful look into the fascinating reconstruction of this Bronze Age boat, an essential part of the UAE’s seafaring legacy.
At 8pm the same day, Dr Peter Magee, Director of Zayed National Museum, will lead a conversation at the Community Stage on “Our Museum: A Beacon of Creativity and Connection.” Discover how museums can evolve into vibrant, interactive hubs of education, social awareness, and community engagement.
But the best part?
You’ll have the chance to get creative at hands-on workshops throughout the Book Fair. Try your hand at writing in ancient Sumerian script with a cuneiform stylus or create your very own Bronze Age-inspired jewellery.
Plus, there’s a special workshop for kids where they can design their own pieces reflecting the craftsmanship of the past!
The Zayed National Museum, built on the visionary legacy of the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, is the ultimate cultural destination—preserving and celebrating the UAE’s history from its ancient roots to modern-day achievements.
